This delicious image is an #exclusive from @vscoartistinitiative #artist Prairie Stuart-Wolff (@cultivateddays), and it's a photo that has a delicious backstory. As Prairie told us: "Cha-kaiseki, the meal served at Japanese tea ceremony, embodies in its philosophy and performance the foundational elements of Japanese cuisine. Though kaiseki conjures notions of an exclusive and rarified experience, the same guiding principles are found at the core of daily cooking in homes across the country. To learn about kaiseki is to understand the essence of washoku, Japan’s national cuisine that celebrates the simple treatment of seasonal ingredients. "For an article on cha-kaiseki (to be published in May) I had the honor of interviewing Gotou Kazuko, a direct descendent in the lineage that heads the Mushanokoji school of tea, one of three lineages traced back to grand master Sen no Rikyu. She prepared here an example of the first course of a summer cha-kaiseki meal. A bowl of miso soup, a small portion of rice, and mukozuke (a small dish of fish) are presented to guests on individual trays." Dish details: Hacho miso soup with eggplant. White rice.
